Hamer - Julian C. Hamer is a Black woman from Baltimore, Maryland who loves life, spiritual connection, and joy. She is a creative executive visionary, storyteller, filmmaker, entrepreneur, and media archivist of Black life and history. She is the founder and owner of Fearless Video Productions. Julian tells stories at the intersection of culture, art, and politics, prioritizing Black life. After studying journalism at Temple University, her career began when she returned home working in a local evening news studio as a camera operator and technician, while launching a freelance career in live sports broadcast she has never put down. Frustrated by news coverage following the death of Freddie Gray, she created her first feature and award-winning documentary, If Walls Could Talk, which followed artists curating a mural project in Baltimore's Sandtown-Winchester community immediately following the 2015 Uprising, allowing Julian to move into storytelling full-time. In the years that followed, she came up through the camera and production departments on some of the most recognizable work in television and film, crewing for the production companies behind HBO's Notes From the Field and The Plot Against America, HBO Max's Charm City Kings, CNN's United Shades of America, A&E's Intervention, Investigation Discovery, and PBS, alongside commercial work for brands like Under Armour and music artists including Megan Thee Stallion, Meek Mill, and A Boogie wit da Hoodie. In 2019, Julian was called to serve as senior producer and lead cinematographer for Kamala Harris's presidential campaign, helping lead her campaign video team headquartered in Baltimore and on the trail. When Harris was named the vice-presidential nominee in 2020, Julian was called back to lead her team again, directing and shooting the Democratic National Convention introduction film "Kamala Harris is Us," which reached more than 20 million people. She led that work through the election. Five days after the 2021 inauguration, Julian founded Fearless Video Productions, stepping fully into the roles she had spent a decade building toward: director, producer, executive producer, and, still, cinematographer of her own work. In Fearless's first year she directed and executive produced Unwavering: The Power of Black Innovation for Echoing Green, a documentary broadcast nationally on NBC in collaboration with Comcast NBCUniversal. She executive produced Covid Conversations for Black Public Media and NNICE, an Anthem Award winner, and served as director of photography and field producer on Represent: Deja Foxx, the Courier Newsroom docuseries following Deja Foxx's groundbreaking grassroots run for Congress as a young Gen Z organizer, which became the newsroom's first long-form digital series and amassed more than eight million views. Her recent work also spans the United Way of Central Maryland's 100 Year Anniversary campaign, the 115th NAACP National Convention, and digital strategy, production, and post-production support for the Office of the Vice President, including Vice President Harris's 2023 trip to Africa and her 107 Days book tour. She is currently in production on a feature-length documentary about her great-grandmother, civil rights organizer Hilda Mason, co-founder of the DC Statehood Party. Julian works as a giving, present collaborator. She builds intimacy and trust with the people who share their stories, because she believes safety is what makes vulnerability possible, and that radical honesty is how a community listens, communicates, and moves toward freedom together. A former hooper and a house music head, Julian also works as a producer and technical director in professional and collegiate live sports broadcast, a discipline she loves and a world she is working to bring into Fearless.
